2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a distinct direction.
The president expressed that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Hires
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the full message from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His leadership and experience in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of the game in the months to come.
The President

"Take on the competition with unique powers, stakes, and tests that evolve every match. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or go big, gamble everything, and hope your team can secure victory? The option is up to you."
Project Ethos does not have an official release date or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as development advances.
