Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from that period of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
